Your Voice is Power

Your Voice is Power is a national competition for middle and high school students designed to teach the fundamentals of computer science, entrepreneurship, and social justice. Using the EarSketch platform, students get creative to remix songs from Indigenous artists and use what they have learned from the provided course outline.

Students engaging in the program will learn about the history of hip-hop music as a response to the many injustices faced by African American youth in the United States; Indigenous and Canadian history; Indigenous music and knowledge systems; the Truth and Reconciliation's 94 Calls to Action and more ALL while learning valuable coding skills!

This program was designed to be easy for teachers to implement in their classrooms - all students need is a laptop and internet connection! This program can fit into many different courses including English, Social Studies, Computer Science, Music, Art, Indigenous Studies and many more. Students and teachers do not need to have any prior coding knowledge or experience to begin the program!

All the modules are available for free on the Your Voice is Power website at www.yourvoiceispower.ca
